French Drain Installation in Tampa Bay & Pasco County

A French drain uses a perforated drainage pipe installed in a drainage trench. Water enters the pipe through its perforations, and the line carries it through the area and on toward a place where it can be released.

There is no single French drain design that suits every yard. Where the line runs, how long it is and what it connects to all depend on the property and the drainage problem it is meant to address.

At this Starkey Ranch home in Odessa, the drainage system was designed to handle water from more than one source. Roof runoff from all of the home's downspouts was connected into the underground drainage system, and the drain lines from the A/C units were tied in as well.

The main line is 4-inch perforated French-drain pipe, running approximately 103 linear feet down the property line. Along the final 15 to 20 feet or so, the layout splits into two separate lines, and each line serves its own catch basin.

Bringing the downspouts, the A/C drain lines and the French drain together means the water from each source is handled by one planned system rather than several separate fixes. It is a practical example of how a French drain, downspout connections and catch basins can work as parts of the same layout.

Brian plans each system around the individual property. He looks at the slope and grade, how the home sits on the property, where water needs to be collected, where the existing downspouts are, and which areas can practically accept the water.

From there he decides whether the job calls for a French drain, downspout drainage, catch basins or a combination.
